Low Poly Landscape Render

3D Rendered Floating Island with a House and Trees

Low Poly Landscape - Made with Blender

I have a bit of a habit: whenever I spot a course on sale, I tend to snatch it up. Over time, I’ve collected quite a stash from platforms like GameDev.tv and CGBoost, covering everything from game engines like Unity, Unreal, and Godot, to numerous Blender courses. There’s something about diving deeper into Blender that I find irresistibly appealing.

Recently, I wrapped up the Low Poly Landscapes course by Grant Abbitt, an exceptional instructor. I methodically worked through each lesson, although I admit to speeding some videos up to 2x. Progressing through the course, I noticed how much more fluent I’ve become in Blender. Navigating menus, using shortcuts, and even modeling significant parts of the design on my own without guidance from the videos—these actions have become second nature. The solo effort paid off, and I am quite pleased with the outcome.

I’m a huge fan of claymation videos and the unique aesthetic of Savannah XYZ, which masterfully blends clay materials with well-designed and hilarious Blender animations. During this project, I took the opportunity to experiment with Clay Doh by DoubleGum, a procedural shader for Blender Cycles and Eevee that includes fingerprints and cracks. Looks just like real clay. The texture and feel it adds to the scenes are fantastic, and I’m eager to incorporate it into future projects.

For anyone starting out with Blender or looking to solidify their skills, I’d heartily recommend Grants course. He also has a huge collection of tutorials on his YouTube channel.
